What is the League of Legends?
A summer league for female beach volleyball players at an Intermediate+ level. It works like this:
-
Form a team (2-3 players) and submit your details by May 5th
-
The following week, you’ll be sent a list of matches that you need to play by June 30th
-
You play every team in the league once or twice (depending on how many teams sign up).
-
A match is the best of 3 sets - 21, 21, and 15
How does the league work?
How does the league work?
-
Every time you play a match, you gain points.
-
For each set you win, you get 5 points
-
If you win 2-0, you get 10 points and your opponent gets zero
-
If you win 2-1, you get 10 points and your opponent gets 5 points

At the end of June, the teams will be ranked and we’ll run a ‘tournament’ (like the Euros) where you go through a quarterfinal, semi final, and final (at least 3 matches). This will either be on one day, or we’ll run it across a fortnight
-
If people enjoy the league, we will repeat it in the second half of the summer (i.e. July - Sep)
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I play the matches?
Teams self-organise their matches. You can organise them any time - morning, noon or night. You both just have to agree to the time and place. You self ref and then hand in your scores.
What is Intermediate+?
Intermediate+ means you’re comfortable passing a hard serve, setting your partner where they’d like it, and hitting specific spots on the court.
What’s the cost?
Since this is the first time we’re running a league, it’s free to enter. You just have to have an EBVC Membership (any membership gets you entry into the league).
What do you mean you can be a team of three?
Some of our members have busy lives - or are only here for part of the summer. So if you want, you can set up a team of three, and enter a different combination of people for each match. The only mandatory is that you have to play each combination at least once. You cannot sub anyone in - the 2 people you nominate play the full match.
Any other specific rules?
All standard UKBT rules apply. However - we are encouraging all teams to be highly lenient with hand setting. Only call a hand set if you feel it’s given an unfair advantage to the other team (i.e. someone has hand set the serve receive, or someone has caught and redirected the ball).
